It’s all in the name – meet UFC Fighter and one of The Originals, Stevie ‘Braveheart’ Ray.
Steven Ray (otherwise know as Stevie) is a Scottish Mixed Martial Artist and Lightweight UFC Fighter. If names are anything to go by, the 25 year old Scottish Fight Challenge Champion, Total Combat Champion, Bamma British Champion and Cage Warriors World Champion certainly fits the title of ‘Braveheart’. We grab five minutes with the man himself to talk daily rituals, Harry Potter and the inspiration behind his signature MadeBrave® Originals t-shirt.
When did you first get in to MMA fighting?
It was about six years ago, when I was nineteen. Someone I knew did MMA and asked if I wanted to come along. I was thrown right in the deep end, and instantly knew it was what I wanted to do.
Describe your typical day.
It depends on what day it is, but it’s usually along the lines of get up, have breakfast, train, spend time with the kids and Natalie, make lunch, pick up my son from nursery, make dinner, train again, sleep and repeat. Something like that!
Tell us something people wouldn’t know about you.
I’m a big fan of the Harry Potter movies.
Who are your top three icons?
Conor McGregor, Tyson and Georges St-Pierre.
What’s the inspiration behind your signature t-shirt?
My nickname is ‘Braveheart’ so that was the basis of the design. The words ‘Strong Mind. Brave Heart’ pretty much sum up what it’s like to be an MMA fighter, it takes a lot of discipline and a love for the sport.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My UFC debut win.
What’s your biggest fear?
Not too keen on heights – I would never jump off a plane or do a bungee jump or anything like that.
What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
Probably get on a flight to Poland for my UFC debut when Natalie was due to give birth to our daughter four days later.
